Graduate Scholarships and Financial Support
The Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary offers one of the most generous assistance programs in Canada. Some $5 million in graduate scholarships, awards and assistantships are available annually to over 2000 graduate students.

GRADUATE AWARDS
Graduate students in Geomatics Engineering can apply for the following scholarships and awards.
- Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fellowships:Open to International/Canadian PhD students, and valued at $18,000.
- The Alberta Research Council Scholarship: Open to International/Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $15,600.
- Alberta Ingenuity Fund: Open to Inter-national/Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $20,000.00 per year.
- Eratosthenes Award: Open to International/Canadian MSc or PhD students registered full-time in the Department of Geomatics Engineering. Valued at $1,000.
- Innovation in Mobile Mapping Award: Open to International/Canadian MSc or PhD students registered full-time in the Department of Geomatics Engineering. Open to candidates who have made innovative contribution to research in the area of INS/GNSS integrated systems for mobile mapping and positioning. Valued at $3,500.
- Graduate Faculty Council Scholarship: Open to International/Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $5,000.
- The Margaret P. Hess Graduate Scholarship: Open to Canadian MSc students and value to be determined ($3,000 +).
- iCore: Open to Canadian MSc or PhD students who are enrolled in departments outside computer science and electrical and computer engineering but who are pursuing strong ICT-related research. Value up to $15,000
- Institute of Navigation (ION) Alberta Section Gradutate Scholarship: Open to candidates whose research will be on some aspect of satellite based, ground-based and integrated wireless location and navigation systems. Valued at $1,000.
- Institute of Navgation (ION) Graduate Scholarship: Open to candidates whose research will be on some aspect of satellite based, ground-based and integrated wireless location and navigation systems. Valued at $1,000 US.
- Institute of Navigation (ION) National Gradute Scholarship: Open to candidates whose research will be on some aspect of satellite based, ground-based and integrated wireless location and navigation systems. Valued at $1250.00 US.
- KIS-94 Graduate Scholarship: Open to Canadian/International MSc or PhD students who have completed at least two relevant graduate courses in the Department of Geomatics Engineering and whose research will be on some aspect of satellite and/or other RF positioning systems.Valued at $2,000.
- The Ian N. McKinnon Memorial Fellowship: Open to Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $3,500.
- Helmut Moritz Graduate Scholarship: Open to Canadian/International MSc or PhD students in the Department of Geomatics Engineering, and value up to $2,600.
- The Robert B. Paugh Memorial Scholarship in Engineering: Open to International/Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $750
- Province of Alberta Graduate Scholarships and Fellowships: Open to Canadian MSc or PhD students, and valued at $9,300.
- Sceptre Resources Limited Graduate Scholarship: Open to International/Canadian MSc students, and value up to $10,000.
- L.R. (Dick) Newby Memorial Award: Open to Canadian MSc students in the Department of Geomatics Engineering, and value up to $750.
- North West Group Graduate Scholarship: Open to students entering or enrolled in a full-time graduate program in the Department of Geomatics Engineering, and valued at $5,000.
ASSISTANTSHIPS
Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) The Faculty of Graduate Studies, through its departments, annually awards over 500 Graduate Research Scholarships. They are valued at $4100 per four-month term.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GAT) which normally require about 12 hours per week of instruction, preparation and marking, are available. They are administered by the Department and are awarded on the basis of area of specialization and teaching skills in the English language.
Assistantships from Research Funds are available from faculty members in the Department of Geomatics Engineering. The needs for research assistants clearly depend on the nature of the research projects and individual faculty members should be consulted for any further information.
